After our xmas party, we went straight to Tandang Sora for the KFC & Gawad Kalinga Youth Build. There, we were asked to pick one child to be our best friend for the day, I picked Archie, an 11 year old kid who wants to be a soldier someday. My goal is to make this day a memorable one for him, what did I do to accomplish this goal? Heeehee… I joined as much games as I can to gather gifts for my bestfriend. ^_^ During lunch, Alex told me about his bestfriend, apparently, his bestfriend didn’t eat his donut, he took it and put it on his bag and told us that he will bring it home for his mom. Touching, luckily, I havent finished my lunch yet, I just finished my spaghetti and asked Archie my bestfriend to take the rest of my food and share it with his family.

The whole day was fun for me and hopefully for Archie and the rest of the kids too. Atleast for one day, after years of graduating from highschool, I was able to play again as a kid, I was able to enjoy my day again, playing and making other kids happy. Now that I’m writing this post, it came to my mind that we were so busy with work that we forget to enjoy each day we have. Yes we have money that we earn from work, but what I really miss is the time I was playing when I was still a kid. If i will be given a chance again, to spend a day playing and making a kid happy, I will gladly say yes, maybe I can bring hope and example to kids like Archie, who dares to dream to be a better person in life. I know I made Archie happy last saturday, but the event we had last saturday made me much happier. I hope that Archie’s dream won’t be just a dream but a reality in his future.

I was touched by GK’s motto: Less for self, More for others, Enough for everyone. It is truly an inspiring and touching motto. Having a day with the GK kids made me realize how lucky I am, how lucky we are that we are able to buy things we want, while other kids strive to go to school without their baon. I am praying for these kids future, that they will be successful, that they will become a better person someday.

I’m looking forward for another GK Youth Build and I will be glad to be there. ^_^
